Six Diving Safety Tips during and after COVID-19

Obviously as a dive lodge and scuba diving charter here in Sodwana Bay we will be taking all necessary precautions to ensure that our diving clients stay safe both above and underwater.

Apart from everyone's new covid protocol which include social distancing, wearing masks if you have to interact with anyone and following basic good hygiene rules of handwashing, we have put together a list to help you protect yourself and to minimize your risk for exposure.

  • According to DAN (Divers Alert Network) we should be sanitizing diving equipment (following the manufacturer's recommendations) in a 10% bleach solution.  This is of particular importance for personalized items such as masks, snorkels and regulators  as well as BCD oral inflators, whistles and orally inflated SMBs.  All dive gear left in our care will be washed in marine disinfectant at the end of every days diving.
  • We will be disinfecting all equipment including our rental equipment daily and we will have sanitizer and disinfectants on the beach and on the boats but we recommend that you carry additional disinfectant in your dive bags for your own peace of mind.
  • items of a personal nature such as rental masks and snorkels will be allocated to you at the beginning of your stay with us and placed in your care until you have finished diving to decrease the possibility of cross contamination.
  • Use a defog solution instead of saliva on your masks prior to entering the water  - this is available on our dive boats for your safety.
  • Always keep your DAN dive insurance up to date and your diving certifications, remember to carry medical and insurance information with you.
  • Always follow the safety guidance of us as your dive operator, if you have any safety concerns please talk to us and we will be happy to put your mind at rest.
